How to Prepare Your Child for a Nanny: Tips for Parents

The arrival of a nanny in a child’s life is a serious step for both parents and the child. It involves a change in familiar surroundings, a new person in the house, new rules and interactions. Therefore, properly preparing your child for this stage is the key to a smooth adaptation and trusting relationships.
1. Start with a dialogue
Explain to your child who the nanny is and why she will appear in your house. Tell her simply and sincerely. Instead of the phrase “Mom is leaving, and you are staying with the nanny,” it is better to say: “Tomorrow a kind woman will come who will play with you, walk and help you.” If the child already understands the language of emotions, explain that the nanny will be a friend you trust.
2. Give time to get to know each other
Don't leave your child with a new person for a long time at once. Spend the first meeting together. Watch your child's reaction, give them the opportunity to show their curiosity. It's ideal if you are at home for the first few days, but at a short distance - this creates a sense of security in the child.
3. Create shared rituals
If your child gets used to doing certain activities with their nanny (reading a book before bed, taking a morning walk, playing a favorite game), this will greatly accelerate the formation of an emotional connection. Rituals provide predictability and comfort, which is especially important in a new environment.
4. Show an example of trust
Children read your emotions even without words. If you are worried, nervous or do not trust the nanny - the baby will feel it. On the contrary, if you calmly communicate with the nanny, sincerely thank her, smile - the child will also treat her with trust.
5. Support the adaptation
Even if the first few days seem difficult, don't jump to conclusions. Some children need more time to accept a new person. Encourage your child to talk about their day, support their emotions, and praise them for their courage.
Remember that adapting to a nanny is a natural process, and with your care and support, it will definitely be successful. And a good nanny will become not just an assistant, but a true friend for your child.
